Congratulations to the 5/6 Graders for their 2016 TEAM STATE CHAMPIONS.

Fitchburg Wrestling and the Fitchburg Youth Wrestling Program

This site contains news and information about the areas amateur wrestling organizations. It is primarily targetted at the youth programs for boys and girls, pre kindergarten through 8th grade. Information for High School wrestling will also be listed as it becomes available and we will try to have annoucements for the area's college wrestling programs. It's a great feeling for the coaches to see a new parent scream something like, 'Wrap the leg,Post the arm, turk,Turk,TURK,watch your hips, Stay back- CROSSFACE!, Slide the other leg over and in - double leg wrap, PIN!'

The Fitchburg Youth Wrestling Program (FYWP) is purely a volunteer program, it is not funded by any of the schools. The entry costs cover the costs of renting the gym and a tee-shirt, everyone else is a volunteer. Parent's are encouraged to help. Even if you don't know anything about the sport, parent's can be trained just like the kid's, and there are unlimited resources on the web if you want to study up on it.

Any BODY can Wrestle

Wrestling is the most accessible sport, it's probably the only sport where anyone, small, tall, big, or disabled can do it. Some of my most vivid memories of the sport have been watching kid's with disabilities accel, such as watching a kid with no eyes get a takedown in 1/2 second into the match and another with with no leg's shoot a double leg takedown.

Wrestling is an individual sport, sure there are team events, dual's and team scoring at tournments, but at the root it's one against one. There is no one to blame if things don't happen the way you want them to and you get out exactly what you put into it.

According to the National Federation of State High School Associations (www.nfhs.org) "Wrestling is the sixth-most popular sport for boys at the high school level with 259,688 participants, according to the 2007-08 NFHS High School Athletics Participation Survey. In addition, there were an additional 5,527 girls nationwide who participated in wrestling in 2007-08."

Spring Wrestling starts Apr. 6 - more info here

Welcome to Fitchburg Wrestling! We are a local community volunteer sports organization for kids k-8 grade. Our season run's from the first monday before thanksgiving until the week of the New England Championships around the second week of March and for some Marshwoods the first weekend in April. We begin online registration October 1st and have two meet and greet registrations: Tuesday Nov 1st and Thursday Nov 10th in the lobby of the Monty Tech gymnasiums

We practice Mon,Tuesday, and Thursday's from 6:00-7:30 at Monty Tech. We have practice during the holidays. Kids are broken up into groups based on weight, age and experience.

We are a competitive team (2016 STATE CHAMPIONS, 5x CMASS team champions, top 5 continuously in State and a 90% dual win record the last three years) and their is some local travel involved. We will have coaching staff at ~16 optional individual tournaments, so their is amble opportunity for wrestlers to attend tournaments that match their ability.

For the 2016-2017 season, registration is $85 for one child, $130 for two and $40 for each child after that. New team singlets are $75,but can be exchanged each year as the child grows.

We usually host two tournaments a year, The Fitchubrg Holiday tournament the weekend before christmas break (Dec 18th 2016 ) and a post season tournament in late Jan/early Feb. These are our fundraisers for new equipment and everyone is expected to help out.
